Well..

Her appointment went pretty good. :)
I was pleasantly surprised at the fact that the Dr we saw today was the Dr that performed her MRI before her surgery. I never had the chance to meet him while we were up there, so I took the time to thank him 10 times over today. Without his MRI on her, she would have had to have open heart surgery, vs going in through her side the way they did. I thanked him for caring so much for her, and he was pretty excited to see her.

The Dr that did her echo today was also the same Dr that did her echo up there as well. I was so happy to be seeing the same people, and it felt just so comfortable. I was nervous before the appointment, but to see his face really made me feel at ease. He was great. He did her echo, and was just wonderful with her.

I have to admit while I was sitting there with her, I did start to feel alot of anxiety. I had so many of these when I was pregnant with her, and everytime I saw her heart beating on the screen then (while still pregnant) I just held my breath because I was so nervous of what they were going to say. I never really had that awwwww there is her heartbeat moment.
All of those same feelings came flooding back today. I hated that they did too. I just sat there holding my breath again, and BAD thoughts went through my head. I kept thinking they were going to say something like she needs to have a heart transplant now or something. Ugh..But we got through it. She was great. She fell asleep during it, and only woke occasionally to grunt at him.

The echo showed that her heart is performing great. The dr said something about the descending part of her aorta, but I can't remember the exact term he used. I was paying more attention to him saying that the repair looked great, and that he wasn't concerned because the blood was rushing through perfectly.

Her left ventricle is still on the smaller size. He point blankly said that it wasn't considered a normal size, but that it is growing, so that is what is important. He also said the same about her aorta. It is smaller than normal, but it had grown since her surgery, so that is good too. He reiterated to me that she was going to be a happy, normal child that had heart surgery when she was young. He also said that she shouldn't have any restrictions on her as she gets older. I asked about sports, (obviously she isn't going to do sports until she is older, but I get asked this question alot and didn't know the answer) and he said that she should be fine, but as she gets older, we will know better. He said that he usually has kids do a stress test before he releases them to do sports, or other vigorous activities.

Now for the not so good. He doesn't like that her voice is the way it is. He said that it should have come back by now, and is concerned that she might have vocal cord paralysis. He asked me if it was brought up to me that she could have this while we were there, and I told him not until towards the end, before we were discharged. He left the room to call his ear, nose, and throat Dr friend, but couldn't reach him. He said he should be able to reach him by tomorrow and will ask his opinion on what we should do. I told him her ped said that he was going to refer her in a month to an ENT Dr, but he doesn't want to wait that long. He is concerned she might have tracheamalacia..meaning her trachea is softened. I told him about the noise she makes all of the time, and she did it for him while we are there..it is kinda like a backwards hiccup, and he said that he is concerned when he hears that because she could possibly aspirate fluid into her lungs while she is drinking.
He asked if she has ever choked, and I said she had to cough up some milk once, but it was because she drank too fast, and she coughed it out okay.

He said that he felt better about it then. He is just concerned with her throat being that way that it will effect the way she swallows, but if she hasn't had any problems yet, she should be okay.

She is 21 inches long now, and is 8 lbs, and 15oz. She gained 10 oz in 2 weeks..we are happy!

There is more, but that is the important stuff, so I will leave it at that for the night.
