Katelynn has a super big day tomorrow. The cardiologists from Portland come down once a month to see all of the heart babies in our area, and tomorrow she has her first post home visit. I hope I worded that right.
They are going to give her an echo of her heart to make sure that things are still repaired, and that the narrowing hasn't tried to return. I may have mentioned this a few times, but the narrowing of her heart artery that got repaired has history of coming back after surgery. Sometimes it comes back right after surgery..(hers didn't show any indications on the echo she got before her discharge) sometimes it comes back a few weeks after surgery..(hence the appointment), or sometimes it returns in a later part of life. This is why she will be continuously monitored.
The only good thing about a coArcation returning is that it can be possibly repaired with a stent via catheterization repair. She would have a catheter inserted into her groin, and it would thread a stent into the narrowing area of the artery to keep it open. That isn't supposed to happen, hence the surgery, but it is always a possibility.
So we are anxious to see what the echo will show. We are hoping that it also shows her left ventricle has grown a bit more now and that it is not showing signs of being overworked, like it did before her surgery.
I can't wait to see how much she weighs, and what they think of her. I am so proud of my baby, and I just want to show her off to everyone. She is such a star. I thought that maybe she had lost some hair since her birth, but it appears she may have grown even more. She has the BEST face expressions ever. I joke all of the time how she can give the best dirty look I have ever seen. She has so many of us wrapped around her fingers, and I am so blessed to have her!
