60 years old, and halfway through radiation!

Mom turned 60 over the weekend, and she didn't want a lot of fuss and muss..say what?? Little does she know we are going to take her on a little vacation once this radiation biz is over..

We went and had a girls day out, shopping at all those little shops you never ever get to go into. We went and looked at prosthetic breasts for her to have on hand. My mom was apprehensive, to say the least, but she did mention that she would like to have one, so my sister and I will probably go in on one once she is able to go back in with a real bra on and get a good fit for the one she wants. I was surprised at how REAL these things are. When Mike and I first got together, his grandmother had a insert to put into her bra since she had gone through a masectomy, and these things look way different than what she had. They are super soft, and squishy, almost like an implant if you have ever had the chance to feel a demo one.

In the end, she decided she will wait, and good thing too! These things are spendy.

After that, we went and picked her up some Marie Calender pies..she loves a good lemon pie vs a cake, and I made enchiladas for everyone.

Mom is about halfway though radiation..she ends officially Feb 15th. She is starting to look a bit "burned" from the treatment. It looks red, like she has been in a tanning bed, and her scars are really red. Mom has had a great masectomy. She has quite the little breast left..it is kinda cool. I am used to seeing jarring pics of hollowed out breasts, leaving women feeling like they have had everything taken away from them. Mom has been given the opportunity to have some nice cleavage if she decides to get an insert. You would never be able to guess that she has had surgery.

It will just be something she will need to consider, shall the time comes for her to get one.

I had my annual last week...made time for the girls, and I am happy to report a clean bill of health. Shew! I mean I know I am young, but when your mom is going through this big of battle, makes you feel a bit relieved to know for sure, ya know?
