A really, really nice gift.

Mike did his mom's taxes last night..till way late last night. She had filed for an extension and had to have them in by midnight the 15th yesterday and well..they still didn't make it, but it was okay because she didn't end up owing, so she won't have any penalties.

Mike is such a patient guy..I tell ya, I would have been irritated beyond belief to get a call from his mom asking him to do her taxes at the end of the limit, but he takes things in stride. He enjoys helping her out and knows that he will always be the go to guy in his family. I admire him for that.

So anyways..during the duration of doing the taxes, he was asking her for all of the items she would need to make her liability go lower, and the subject of her motor home came up.

About a year before Dave passed, he bought them a motorhome. Keep in mind this thing was not even a new motorhome, definitely used, but it was perfect for them. It was the same motorhome we used to have, only theirs was newer..had brand new carpet put in, and the layout was much better. We went camping with them once in it, where we all took it to the coast..even Matthew went along.

It was a couple of months after that trip that Dave started feeling sick again..but didn't know it was the cancer coming back..we wouldn't know for months later that it was the cancer.

So Mike was asking his mom about the motor home and what is she going to do with it, whether she was going to sell it..(it has been in storage since that trip we took to the coast.) She mentioned that she had wanted to sell it, but hasn't had any bites due to the steep gas prices. In talking to Mike, she decided rather than trying to sell it, she wanted to just give it to us.
Mike didn't tell me this until today when we were out and about and it was after I made a comment about missing going camping. He was like, OMG, I forgot to tell you!!

So we went to the storage unit and checked it out. It is older, but we totally can't wait to get it out on the road again. It needs a bit of tlc, but that is what we totally love..we had got our old motorhome from an auction and it was much older than this one and we spent so much time fixing it up, we painted it inside and out and made it ours. We had alot of fond memories of taking it all over Oregon before we became parents. Time passed..I got laid off from the department store, and we couldn't afford it anymore. It was costing too much to have a loan on it, the cost of maintaining it was high, and it cost us too much to take out every other weekend, so we sold it. sigh. It was so sad to see it go..

But to know that we will be able to start those fond memories up again is so amazing!!
I couldn't have asked for a better gift like that. She obviously loves her son, and knows that he does alot for her, and to just give us the rv is so nice! I will be thanking her for a long time. She says that all she wants is to go camping with us the first time we take her out again. I think we can handle that!
