Fun Weekend...

At a last moment's notice, my mother in law invited us to go to the casino this weekend, and we brought the kids. We had some fun! It was cool to go on a last minute trip, and I am reminded how lucky we are to have been able to have traveled as much as we have this past summer, and fall. We left after work on Friday, and did the hour and a half drive. She has been playing the roll of a high roller there recently, and had earned enough comp points to get either 2 free rooms for one night, or one room for 2 nights. We chose the 2 nights, since you stay up super late at the casino anyways, and didn't want to drive home so early the next day. The kids were sooo thrilled to get to go, and they loved their Aero Bed. They love being able to sleep together, and bunk on the floor together.

Mike's mom went out as soon as we got there, and then came back to the room around 10 pm. Mike and I then went out together to the casino, and stayed out till 3am. We were like rock stars. We met a few great people, and we all kept finding ourselves playing the same games, so we took turns ordering rounds of drinks for eachother. We didn't win a lot of money..but we didn't expect to, either. We wanted to have fun, and that is what we had.

Saturday, Mike took the kids to the drive through zoo, and Mike's mom and I played bingo. We didn't win, but it was fun to hang out together for the few hours that it was, and Mike had a great time with the kids. My only regret is that I forgot to take our camera, so I missed out on seeing the kids' reactions to the cool animals that were coming up to the van! Matthew kept reminding me that I should have come, and deep down, I am sad I missed it. Mike as of late is getting to be Disneyland Dad, and I have taken on the roll of the disciplinarian. I want that time to get away, and do things for Heather, but then I find out how sad I get when I am away from my family, whilst playing bingo. I guess every parent must feel that way.

Overall, great weekend. We are all unpacked, and laundry is already done. I would say it was a win-win. We came home, and my mother had made us all stew, and we had a great dinner of warm veggies, and it was very comforting. Mmmmm
