Matthew had a blast writing out all of his Valentine cards for his class. He had to get it just right, but then he got excited that he was recognizing his friends' names, so I had to jump in and make sure that the whole list was getting accomplished.
The next day his teacher emailed us to say that there was going to be "A new student starting this week, and could we please make one more Valentine so that he would feel like part of the group?" So we did, and I told Matthew about the situation.
He asked me all kinds of questions...like what would he look like, and what school is he coming from, and is he also living in our city? I told him it would be really nice if he could make friends with him since he was probably going to be nervous starting a new school where he might not know anyone, and how I would be scared starting a new school too.
So Matthew's teacher sent home a note tonight telling me that Matthew has been a leader all week, and how he was the first one to talk to the new boy, and he has been helping him all week long with learning the ropes of the class, and the school, and making him feel at ease.
Proud mom moment. Matthew, the leader. Matthew has told me that he has got to be the line leader several times lately..(as all the kids do) but that he has felt really big, and honored to be asked. I am so proud of him.
