Strange day, Strange Weekend...

Mike's mom told us a few weeks ago that she had been in contact with Mike and Michelle's dad, and got a whole plan for everyone to go have breakfast in preperation to talk about Michelle's wedding in a few months. To me, it seems bizarre that you have to have this breakfast all planned out. Especially since Mike's birth dad lives in the same damned city as us. He only shows up for life's events. Last time we saw him was at our wedding, and the time before that, at Michelle and I's high school graduation. I guess it seems mean to refer to him as his birth dad, but in Mike's words, that is all he has been, really. Mike's mom is making a big stink about how he should walk Michelle down the aisle, and she is not happy about it, but hey..it is what it is. We went, had the meal, said our pleasantries, and all was well. Matthew was confused at times when his wife kept saying, "That's your grandpa, Matthew!" Um, no. Matthew was like what is going on, Mom? LOL! Oye. Trying to explain that to him was hard. He only knew Bebah (Mike's mom's 2nd husband.)
We have never talked about Mike's real dad with him because well, he is ABSENT. Isn't that sad? To live in the same town as your kids, and not want to be a part of their lives? So we never told Matt about him yet because we just never knew when we'd see him again. So it was a weird day. Well, not a totally weird day...just a weird morning going through all of that. Mike wasn't nervous going in to it, and seemed fine the whole 3 hours we were there. I asked Matt to take a pic of them since I felt it would be too weird for me to, and dangit if they don't look alike a little! Next time we will see him will be at Michelle's wedding, and then, who knows?


PS...it felt sooo good to see Mike being sooo hand's on in front of him! It's like, how could you just give this up? All of this? And then to see you have 3 grandkids now, and not have your heartstrings just pull? Oh!! It just hurts to know people can be like that.
