I used Gala apples for this batch. I normally go for Fuji because I like the crunch they have. The gala's were a bit soft, so they crumbled a bit in the process, but they were still really yummy. I have the apples soaking in lemon juice while the pan is heating the butter.
Then I have a cup of craisins. Mmmmm they are so good!
Melted butter. I never said that they were good for you.
As soon as the butter is melted, and almost ready to pop, add the apples in and "fry" them. Add a little dash of salt at this point.
Once the apples have had time to get coated in the butter, add about a cup of brown sugar. Let the butter and sugar caramelize. Then add the craisins, and toss.
Once everything is joined together, and the craisins have opened up, and rehydrated (just a few minutes) put into a casserole pan. I then take a package of instant oatmeal, and sprinkle it on top. I like the maple and brown sugar flavor. It will look like this:
After you bake for 30 minutes on 350 degrees, take out and stir the apple mixture, and then put back in the oven for 5 minutes. This is what you will have:
Aww man, it is soooo good. It is the perfect topping for ice cream, or on the side of a savory dish. The perfect dish for fall. MMMMM
