100 Grand

Not the candy bar...My baby!
I called the hospital last week to ask for a summary of the charges that incurred in the hospital from Kate's stay and it came today. Not including the charges from her surgeon and her surgery and also my charges, (I guess I have to call and ask for surgery charges separately) the total exceeds 100K.

FAINTS.

I can't believe the cost of some of the things. I know that medical care is expensive, but I didn't know it was this much. For each day she was in the NICU, it cost 3700.00. Times that by 10. Each time they injected her iv site with just saline to keep the site open? $17.81. I know that amount is small, but you realize they had to inject the saline in her hand all day long so that they wouldn't have to start a new iv. Myself as well. The nurses did this round the clock with me so that I wouldn't have to get a new IV site.

I could list more, but you get the idea. I am going to call the hospital back tomorrow to get all of my charges including my stay and surgery to have her, and also for her surgery charges. My guess is that she will be close to 150K by the time things are all said and done. I am putting this 10 page report in her baby book for sure!

Thank GOD for insurance.

WOW Heather!! I agree thank god for insurance!! I never knew what my hospital stay for pre-term labor was, then labor, birth, and Drake being in NICU for a few hours, then being admitted for jaundice. The Navy doesn't give you that stuff. So I am curious/scared to see what the next one will cost1 lol

Isn't it amazing?! Seriously, thank God for insurance. At my hospital we end up doing a lot of pro bono work on sick kids, someone's gotta save them, you know?
